Allotment of Product Code

Purpose

  • To define a procedure for allotment of product code to any finished / semi-finished product.

Scope

  • This SOP applies to any raw material, finished or semi-finished material.

Responsibility

  • Printed Material: Prepress department to assign and keep all the codes updated with their current status.
  • RM / Plain Material: QA department to assign and keep them updated.
  • QA Head
  • To review the correctness / relevancy of the codes from time to time.

Procedure

  • For Raw Material / Packing Material

  • The code of RM (Foil, Laminates, Film, etc.) shall consist of the following: Position Meaning First letter "R" for RM Next three letters GRN number Material type, e.g. LID FOIL – "LID", STRIP FOIL – Next three letters "STR" Next three to four letters Width in mm (for roll-form material only) Next one to three letters Supplier code (optional) Next one to three letters Serial number

  • The code of RM – Ink / Solvent shall consist of the following: Position Meaning First letter "R" for RM Next three letters GRN number Next three letters Material type, e.g. Ink – "INK", Solvent – "ETH" or "DWN" Next one to three letters Supplier name, e.g. Siegwerk – "SW" Next one to three letters Serial number

  • The code of PM (any type) shall consist of the following: Position Meaning First letter "P" for PM Next three letters GRN number Type of PM, e.g. "CBX" for Corrugated Box, "TAP" for Next three letters Tape Next two letters Supplier name, e.g. AS Packers – "AS" Next two to six letters Colour / description of the material

  • For Plain Finished / Semi-Finished Material

  • The code of plain finished goods (Alu-Alu, PVC, Strip Foil, etc.) shall consist of the following: Position Meaning First letter "F" for FG Next three letters Material type, e.g. Strip Foil – "STR" Next two to twelve letters Structure of material Next one letter Outer surface of material, e.g. "D" for dull side out Next three letters Width in mm

The code of SF material (plain & printed Strip Foil, Laminates, Alu-Alu, etc.) shall consist of the following: Position Meaning First letter "S" for SF (Semi-Finish) The entire FG code of the material as it is, without the Remaining first letter "F"

For Printed Finished Material:

  • The code of printed finished goods (Alu-Alu, PVC, Strip Foil, etc.) shall consist of the following: Position Meaning First letter "F" for FG Next three letters Material type, e.g. Strip Foil – "STR" Next two to twelve letters Structure of material Next one letter Outer surface of material, e.g. "D" for dull side out Next one letter Number of colours, e.g. "4" for a four-colour job Next one letter NC coating, e.g. "N" for a job having NC (over-coating) Next two to four letters Sequential job code, e.g. AA01, AB10, AC99, etc.
  • The product code for printed jobs shall be allocated by the Prepress In-charge / operator, post printing of the job, and shall consist of the following: Position Meaning First letter "P" for Printed Material Next two letters "YY" for the year Next two letters "MM" for month Next two letters "DD" for date Next three to four letters "A01" for job sequence
  • Example: for the first job, the printed roll ID shall be P260619A01, the second roll ID is P260619A02, and so on. Similarly, for the second job, the printed roll ID shall be P260619B01, the second roll ID is P260619B02, and so on.
  • The product code for plain jobs shall be allocated by the QA / QC Head, post plain material received at our end, and shall consist of the following: first letter "S" for Slitted Material, and the same coding followed as per the printing. REVISION HISTORY Revision No.
